Licence and EULA

The short version: each build carries whatever licence its platform requires, your money buys updates and support, and a lapsed licence keeps working. The long version is below and it says the same thing.

1. Each build carries its platform’s licence

DFYe is one plugin built once per content management system, and the code licence follows the platform rather than our preference. Where the platform requires it, the build is free software and says so here before you pay.

The DFYe build for WordPress is a WordPress plugin. Its PHP is a derivative work of WordPress, which is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2 or later, so DFYe’s PHP is licensed under the GPLv2 or later as well. This is not a concession made reluctantly. It is how WordPress works, and any commercial plugin telling you otherwise is either wrong or hoping you will not check.

Under that licence you may use the plugin on as many sites as you like, modify it, and redistribute it. We are not going to stop you and we could not if we tried.

Builds for platforms with no such requirement are licensed to you under sections 2 to 6 of this page instead, and the licence a build carries is named on the key you buy. Which platforms exist, and the state of each, is on Works with your CMS. Nothing is on sale yet, so nothing here has been sold under either licence.

2. What your licence key actually buys

Three things, none of which is permission to run the code:

  • Updates. New versions delivered to your site through our update endpoint for the term of your licence.
  • Support. A human answering your email, within the tier you bought.
  • The key itself. Which is what authenticates your site to the update endpoint.

Assets that are not code, such as our logo, this site’s imagery and our name, are not GPL and remain ours.

3. A lapsed licence keeps working

Stop paying and the plugin carries on doing its job. It stops receiving updates. There is no kill switch, no banner nagging across your admin, and no data held hostage. If that ever changes it will be announced before it happens, not discovered afterwards.

4. Your own key, your own data

The plugin calls the model provider whose API key you supply, from your own server. We do not proxy that traffic and we never see the conversations. What that provider does with the requests is governed by your agreement with them, not by this one.

5. Who you are contracting with

6. Not affiliated

DFYe is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of the platforms it is built for, the companies behind them, or any model provider: WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify, Magento, Drupal, Joomla, Shopware, Craft CMS, Ghost, TYPO3, Webflow, Squarespace, Automattic, Adobe, Pixel & Tonic, OpenAI and Anthropic. Those names are used to say what the plugin works with, and each one stays the trademark of its owner.
